Gloucestershire Airport announces fly2help Charity of the Year

Gloucestershire Airport in Staverton has announced that they will be supporting Cirencester based charity fly2help as their Charity of the Year.  Fly2help support families and individuals facing a wide range of trauma or tragedy by giving them the opportunity to experience the liberation and freedom of flight at an Air Smiles Day.

The fly2help Air Smiles Days aim to inspire and develop imagination and stretch personal boundaries, helping individuals to discover new benefits through renewed self-determination.  The extra boost that comes from the freedom of the skies and the exhilaration of flight has been proven to renew motivation and enthusiasm, as well as increase long term self-esteem and confidence.

Kim Davenport, Business Development Manager, Gloucestershire Airport said: “We’re delighted to announce our support for fly2help for the next year. After helping with an Air Smiles Day earlier this year, we saw first-hand the positive effect that it had on a family with a child suffering from a serious illness when one of our pilot’s donated a flight in his aircraft. Each of the staff were so humbled by the experience that we decided that we would all like to continue supporting the charity.”

Felicia Willow, fly2help’s CEO, said: “We are so pleased that Gloucestershire Airport have decided to support our work for the year.  Everyone at the airport was so enthusiastic about the Air Smiles Day we held there in March and I am looking forward to working with them again over the next 12 months.”

The airport joins an impressive list of partners that have already pledged support for fly2help including the Red Arrows, the RAF Typhoon Display Team and the Battle of Britain Memorial Fund. This is the fourth year that Gloucestershire  Airport has nominated a Charity of the Year.  In 2012 they raised £3,200 through events such as an Open Day and a Ball for Help for Heroes and Aerobility.
